Playing Pickleball in San Luis Obispo:
What to Know

Choosing Between French Park and Meadow Park

The two free parks serve different needs. French Park is the bigger venue and the only one with open play seven days a week — but its seven courts aren't equal. The three upper courts are dedicated to pickleball all day; the four lower courts are shared with tennis and rotate through the week: pickleball on Monday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, tennis-only on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, either sport drop-in in the afternoons, and weekend drop-in until noon. If you arrive and the lower courts are netted for tennis, head up.

Meadow Park runs on one fixed weekday-morning window and is the clearest beginner option in our data: those sessions are recreational, and the city's Saturday lessons are held there. Neither park takes reservations — arrive and rotate in.

When the Parks Don’t Fit: Club Options

The two clubs work differently from the parks — you can't just walk on. The Hangar is the option when weather or darkness rules the parks out: its courts are indoor and lighted, and it's membership-based (check current pricing on their site). Kennedy Club Fitness is reservation-based — free court booking for members, a day-use fee for non-members — with one scheduled group session, the Wednesday morning Open Court block in the table above.

Cal Poly Courts: Campus Only

The Upper Sports Complex courts are the newest in the city and the most restricted. They're an ASI facility for Cal Poly students, faculty, and staff — not open to the general public. Open Rec hours (in the table above) apply during the academic year, with evenings reserved for ASI and department use. Equipment checkout is available at the Recreation Center Pro Shop, and the campus also offers indoor pickleball in the MAC. Not affiliated with Cal Poly? French Park and Meadow Park are the public alternatives.

Find Pickleball Courts Near You in San Luis Obispo

If you're near downtown San Luis Obispo, Meadow Park (2251 Meadow St) is one of the closest public pickleball options — a short drive south of the historic district. Players on the eastern side of the city can head to EA French Park (1040 Fuller Rd), and Cal Poly students and staff have the Upper Sports Complex courts near campus.

Coming from Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, Atascadero, or Arroyo Grande? San Luis Obispo's public courts are centrally located for players across the Central Coast — and French Park and Meadow Park are both free with no reservation required.

Visiting San Luis Obispo and Want to Play?

Visiting SLO for a weekend, a Cal Poly event, or a Central Coast trip? You don't need to know a local group to find a game.

EA French Park is the easiest starting point for most visitors: free public courts, no reservations, and open play every day of the week. Bring a paddle and balls, or text PLAY to (805) 503-0284 before your trip and Pickleball Agent will line up games with San Luis Obispo players near your level for your dates.

Finding Games at Your Level

Park open play is mixed-level — you rotate in with whoever's there. For scheduled, organized play, the SLO Pickleball Club posts drop-ins and competitive round robins at slopickleball.org, and dated events appear in the events list on this page.

If you want games matched to your level instead — or you're visiting and want games arranged before you arrive — text PLAY to (805) 503-0284. Pickleball Agent is a free SMS service that coordinates games between San Luis Obispo players by skill level and availability. New players can use the same number to join its small-group intro sessions at French Park.
